Fort Lauderdale has more weekly live jazz than most locals give it credit for. You can catch a set almost any night without a ticket or a cover charge. This guide covers the Broward County spots that actually keep a recurring schedule, so you know where to go and what to expect before you walk in.

La Fuga at Kimpton Shorebreak (Fort Lauderdale Beach)

La Fuga runs live jazz from 6pm to 9pm every Thursday through Saturday. It sits inside the Kimpton Shorebreak resort right on Fort Lauderdale Beach, so you get the music plus the ocean a block away. Thursdays usually add a live singer to the mix. Come for dinner or just post up at the bar. The early start time makes it an easy first stop before a longer night out.

All That Jazz Cafe (Sunrise)

Out west in Sunrise, All That Jazz Cafe books live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6:30 to 11pm with no cover. Each night has its own flavor. Thursdays lean New Orleans, with the food to match. Fridays bring jazz vocals and some 1970s pop from Argarita and the Hot Mess Band. Saturdays are straight classic jazz with the house trio. It is one of the few spots in Broward where the kitchen and the bandstand get equal billing.

Blue Jean Blues (Fort Lauderdale)

Blue Jean Blues has live music seven nights a week, which makes it the most reliable room in town if you just want to walk in and hear something. The catch: the schedule rotates monthly, and jazz shares the calendar with blues and classic-rock cover bands. Some weeks jazz lands on a single night. Check their site before you go so you know which night is yours. When the jazz nights hit, this is one of the best listening rooms in Fort Lauderdale.

Sunday Jazz Brunch on the Riverwalk (Downtown Fort Lauderdale)

This one is the local institution. The city's free Sunday Jazz Brunch takes over Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale on the first Sunday of every month, 11am to 2pm. Local jazz artists play across three stages along the water. Bring a chair, grab food from the vendors, and wander between sets. It is one of the best free things to do downtown, and it pulls a real cross-section of the city, not just a jazz crowd.

Gold Coast Jazz Society at the Broward Center

For a proper sit-down concert, the Gold Coast Jazz Society runs its Live at the Amaturo series inside the Broward Center for the Performing Arts downtown. This is the ticketed, listening-room end of the spectrum: national touring acts, a real theater, a full season of shows rather than a weekly residency. If the bar scene is the casual version of Fort Lauderdale jazz, this is the dressed-up one. Worth knowing about when you want to actually sit and listen.

Where to Start

If you have never done the rounds, start with the free Sunday Jazz Brunch on the Riverwalk to get a feel for the local players. Then work in a Thursday or Friday set at All That Jazz or La Fuga when you want a night with dinner attached. Save the Broward Center for when a name act comes through. Between those, Blue Jean Blues fills in almost any other night you have free.
